Dublin GAA stars Bernard Brogan, Paul Mannion and Cian O’Sullivan were joined by former Dublin player Ray Cosgrove and football manager Tomas O’Flaherta in Glenalbyn, Kilmacud Crokes today to officially announce Volkswagen’s sponsorship of the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland GAA football Sevens. The tournament, now in its 43rd year, remains the most prestigious GAA sevens tournament in Ireland with past winners include St. Galls (Antrim), Corofin (Galway) reigning champions, Kilmacud Crokes. Volkswagen will be supporting this sponsorship with a fully integrated activation program including experiential match day activity, product placement as well an innovative Volkswagen Live GAA TV whereby every goal scored across all the games will be shared across all social media platforms as well as the big screen in Kilmacud Crokes. Throw in for the first game takes place at at 11am on Saturday 17th and each team will play a minimum of three games before the winners advance towards the final event which takes place that evening in front of a full house of Sevens supporters. Paul Mannion, Dublin and Kilmacud Crokes star forward commented, “It has always been a source of pride for me that my club has hosted this prestigious and very special tournament for so many years. I have seen it develop over time, and I really enjoyed playing in the competition last year. We are the defending champions this year so we will be looking to keep the trophy here in Dublin.” Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail said, “The Volkswagen Kilmacud Crokes Football Sevens is an integral part of All-Ireland weekend, placing a special emphasis on our games and club players a day prior to what is the highlight of our inter-county football calendar. This is a long running event organised to the highest standards, and I know that many rivalries and also friendships will be rekindled in what is a very special occasion. I wish everyone involved the very best of luck with this year’s tournament.” Paul O’Sullivan, Head of Marketing of Volkswagen Ireland said, “We were delighted to begin our association with the GAA last year through the All-Ireland Junior Sevens and felt that the All-Ireland Senior competition was a natural fit regarding strengthening our ties with the local GAA communities across Ireland. The Kilmacud Senior Sevens is a competition that is revered across the country, and some of the finest footballers in Ireland have played and will continue to play in the competition this year. We are honoured to be supporting the tournament in 2016 and beyond.” Speaking at the launch, Sean Fox, Chairman of Kilmacud Crokes noted, “We are immensely proud to be announcing our new sponsorship with Volkswagen today. I think it shows the high esteem in which our tournament is held, that an International company such as Volkswagen would look to support us. I know they will do a tremendous job in promoting our competition through their dealers across the country, and I would be hopeful that it will be a long and mutually beneficial partnership.” The tournament, now firmly established on the GAA calendar, will take place on Saturday 17th September 2016 in a host of venues such as Glenalbyn, Silver Park an neighbour, Naomh Olaf’s Pairc ui Bhriain. There will be 32 of the top senior teams from across Ireland competing. Volkswagen has been Ireland’s best-selling brand for the last four years and already has a strong association with the GAA as it currently sponsors the ALL Ireland Junior Sevens competition in association with St. Judes GAA club.
